Global Give-A-Book founder Sylvia Maser began volunteering with ABQ Reads, a partnership between the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and Albuquerque Public Schools. ABQ Reads mobilizes over 350 volunteer tutors each year to help mostly at-risk students at three Albuquerque elementary schools improve their reading skills. Over the course of the school year, students receive 90 minutes of one-on-one literacy tutoring each week.
Sylvia dedicated time each week to reading to first-grade students, sharing stories, and fostering a love for books. Reflecting on her experience, Sylvia shared,
"Participating in ABQ Reads was a rewarding opportunity to connect with young minds and share the magic of storytelling. It's crucial to support programs that lay the foundation for lifelong learning and curiosity."
In addition to volunteering, GGAB donated books to support the program's mission of building home libraries for students. Sylvia's involvement underscores GGAB's commitment to promoting literacy and providing children in underprivileged communities access to quality reading materials.
United, we can bridge the divide in book access.
Your contribution directly supports our mission to provide quality books to children who need them the most and empower children with the tools for success.
