This November, Mayor Tim Keller hosted a community talk at the KiMO Theater, discussing the potential impact of Guaranteed Income on New Mexico families. The talk resonated deeply, emphasizing the link between financial stability and access to education, aligning with Global Give-A-Book’s mission to promote youth literacy by supporting families in need.

This November, Mayor Tim Keller held a talk with New Mexico community members at

the KiMO theater, in addition to a set of panelists that helped guide the discussion of the implementation of Guaranteed Income and how it would positively affect many families. In order to introduce the concept of Guaranteed Income to the audience, a short film was presented; “It’s Basic”, which illustrated the lives of different families and how they have been significantly helped by the inclusion of Guaranteed Income. The film was inspirational, as it gave a window into just some of the lives of everyday people and families, and emphasized the importance of a stable and reliable income in order to survive.

Listening to Tim Keller’s speech, viewing the film, and listening to the panelists and

community members truly had a great impact on how I view finances within education, as they both connect. Relating to the GGAB organization, we must continue to grow in the realm of partnerships and organizations that will support us in our mission to promote youth literacy. Having a stable income for families is incredibly important when it comes to succeeding and continuing in education. It can allow families to get improved education for their children, and access to things like more books and educational resources.

Overall, this event was very important for the community, as it informed the audience about the benefits of Guaranteed Income, and how it could affect them, their family, and friends, while also relating to GGAB’s mission of promoting youth literacy for all.
