At GGAB, we believe that literacy is essential for empowering youth and creating brighter futures. We were excited to support and attend the Crime Stoppers Christmas event on December 8, 2024.
As part of this Christmas literacy initiative, Alicia Hernandez with Crime Stoppers received a donation of #GGABooks along with a check sponsored by GGAB and Sandia Toyota.

On Sunday, December 8th, I attended the annual Crime Stoppers Christmas Event. By selecting kids from the community based on income this event aims to give back to the less fortunate. Located at Main Event with lots and lots of fun activities for the kids. The entire place was open and free to the children, with arcade games, bowling, laser tag, and an obstacle course. There was no end to the entertainment. Alongside the loud music and lots of pizza for lunch the whole thing was one big awesome party.
Many businesses and organizations donated to the children, including Sandia Toyota with GGAB who together donated 100 new packaged books and Walmart gift cards. The books were given out in tote bags or drawstring backpacks which gave the kids a place to put all the other goodies they got throughout the event. Parnall Law hosted a craft table where kids could make clay snowmen and ornaments, and Guild Mortgage donated board games including Candy Land and Checkers. Rosa Izzy, an employee of Guild Mortgage, said in an age of technology the kids are still so excited to pick out a board game and she feels “privileged to be a part of it”. Cops For Kids also handed out lots of goodies including t-shirts, blankets, and toothbrushes.
My favorite part was the police dog who was a very good girl, but the highlight of the morning was when the one and only Santa Claus came down in a police helicopter alongside his wife, Ms. Claus. Santa and Ms. Claus stayed for the whole event to listen to Christmas wishes and take pictures! This event has made a difference for each of the children in attendance. Each and every one of them had a big smile on their faces the whole time, and in the end, they went home with a warm blanket, a new book, and so much more.
United, we can bridge the divide in book access.
