On Saturday, July 20th, I had the pleasure of attending Lavender in the Village with the Global-Give-A-Book team for the third annual Lavender Libros in the Village Literacy Event. We were set up in the kids tent along with many other amazing people and organizations, including Explora! The kids were entertained by crafts, cool 3D prints, a flurry of bubbles floating in every direction, and live readings every thirty minutes.

Global-Give-A-Book was there to support youth literacy and give out free books with a newsletter subscription. Kids of all ages excitedly approached the Global-Give-A-Book booth, which was piled high with children’s books each of which contained an exciting story. Children were drawn in by the colorful cover art, examining each one before carefully deciding which to take home.

In the afternoon Miss New Mexico and Miss New Mexico Pre-Teen came to participate in a live reading to the children. Their shiny crowns and smiles were friendly and inviting. The kids ate popcorn and listened intently to each of the books they read, including  Dog Says, Cat Says and Little Iffy Learns To Fly

Lavender In The Village was fun and educational to attendees of all ages. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, learn about/support the GGAB youth literacy mission, and get a free book. In the end we distributed dozens of stickers, lots of popcorn, and 742 books!

United, we can bridge the divide in book access.

Your investment directly supports our mission to provide quality books to children who need them the most and empower children with the tools for success.
