On August 18, 2024, a very warm and sunny Sunday, Casa Del Rey held an outdoor Family Festival. I had the pleasure of attending the event with Global-Give-A-Book. There were bouncy castles, carnival games, and hotdogs! I helped GGAB give out free reading games and books to kids, including Pipsie Nature Detective: The Disappearing Caterpillar and Catching Flight. The reading card games were given to kindergartners and first graders who seemed excited to try them out. In the end dozens of card games and 200 books were given away.
GGAB was set up next to the school supplies tent. So, kids picked out a backpack filled with school supplies then they would head on down to us and pick out a book. Lots of the kids were so excited to show me their backpacks, showing me the cool designs and sparkles before placing their brand new book inside. It was awesome to see them get so excited about school!
Everyone I met at the Casa Del Rey Family Festival was so kind and fun to talk to. Sometimes the adults were more excited about the free books than the kids were, asking if they could have one for their nieces, nephews, grandkids, etc. We were very happy to give them one. When Global-Give-A-Book attends events like this the entire community gets excited about reading!
