Sandia National Laboratories Joins GGAB in Expanding Access to Books for Homeless NM Youth

Updated: Oct 30

Summer 2024

In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Global Give-A-Book is making a significant difference by providing homeless children with new, high-quality books through the Albuquerque Public Schools' Title I McKinney-Vento Homeless program. This initiative is driven by a generous $5,000 contribution from Sandia National Laboratories

GGAB aims to deliver new books to 89 schools, supporting these children's educational and emotional growth. Continued support is essential to bridging the gap for children in need. The Title I McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, led by the New Mexico Public Education Department, ensures homeless children have equal educational opportunities. However, the need for resources remains high, with 2,300 homeless students in Albuquerque Public Schools, including 1,200 in kindergarten through second grade.

Community partners like Sandia National Laboratories and A World of Difference are crucial in sustaining this project. With ongoing investments, GGAB can continue making a lasting impact on Albuquerque’s homeless youth, helping them succeed in their educational journey.
