Neva Frankhouser, Nursing Major- Spanish Minor, UNM Reading Tutor
Neva Frankhouser, Nursing Major- Spanish Minor, UNM Reading Tutor

Hello! My name is Neva Frankhouser, I am currently a Sophomore at the University of New Mexico, Majoring in Nursing and Minoring in Spanish. A year or so ago I was helping all of my friends edit their essays and something clicked. I realized I really enjoy teaching so since then I've been searching for tutoring jobs and this one stuck. This job felt like the perfect fit because a lot of Albuquerque's youth speaks Spanish so it ties into my minor as well.

Aside from academics I am a part of two A Cappella clubs that do outreach at local highschools to get kids involved in college and in singing in college. This outreach allows us to give access to the arts to kids who might not have even known it was an option. This allows me to give back to the community.

In an ideal world my career takes many routes. I want to graduate with my BSN and go onto grad school. Either law school, a Physicians Assistant program or med school. All of these careers involve giving back to a community and I think my work at GGAB will reflect this skill. Teaching others and inspiring kids to learn to read and find joy in it makes me hope I'm also going to inspire this ambition I have in others.

Working with GGAB has strengthened my ability to adapt as a teacher, grow as a learner and experience many stories of other people's lives. I’m excited to continue this job and learn even more about the city of Albuquerque and its people. This is going to be beyond helpful in any of the careers mentioned above. All involve caring for people and working with them to help them understand and solve issues at hand. GGAB has provided me with these opportunities and will continue to do so.
