A Day of Reading and Fun at Holiday Park

History Major

The last Read-A-Thon of the year took place on October 18th at the Holiday Park Community Center. It was a windy day which is perfect weather for huddling inside out of the cold with a book! There were multiple guests including a police officer who talked a bit about his job and how much he loves to read. It’s awesome to see community members come out and share their love of reading with the kids.

A guest reader read Pipsie Nature Detective: The Disappearing Caterpillar aloud to everyone. It’s a fun nature story with adorable art! The kids especially enjoyed searching each page for the caterpillar. Once the story was over volunteers helped the kids complete a short book report. My favorite part of the book report is when it asks what part of the book you liked most, I love hearing everyone’s answers.

Each kid left with two new packaged books to read at home. These events help foster a love of reading and books in all who attend. Read-A-Thons are a lot of fun, and although I'm sad this was the last of the year, I'm sure they will be just as fun next year!

We extend our deepest gratitude to PNM and their commitment to creating brighter futures and fueling a stronger New Mexico through literacy. Thank you, PNM!
